Conrail modified several H34-class covered hoppers for ballast service. This was done by taking the roof off and replacing the discharge gates with ballast doors. AR 903 is former CR 53820/PRR 257899, a 2-bay PS-2 covered hopper. Models of this car are available in both N and HO, and it would make for an interesting kitbash.
