SD45-2 were held captive in helper service because of the 45 mph speed restriction placed on them after the Amtrak SDP40F/HTC truck affair in the late 1970s. The speed restriction was removed after some ride quality testing on the Chicago Line (and after a certain Sr. VP of Operations retired!).
