Conrail SD40-2 No. 6442 and B36-7 No. 5019 head up a westbound manifest at East Chicago, in September 1998. The rusty track that leads away to the left of the signals is the connection track from the CSX Lake Sub to access its trackage rights across the Indiana Harbor Canal on the Conrail Chicago Line before regaining access to CSX trackage at CP 501, a mile or so west of here. This situation is due to the fact that CSX's own bridge across Indiana Harbor is out of service, having been damaged in a collision in the late 80's. Doug Davidson photo with permission
